Common Tongue: A play about imperfect Scots

Some folk are happy tae listen tae themselves speak. A cannae understaun that. Common Tongue is a play aboot imperfect Scots. Bonnie’s life hus been defined by wirds; the richt wans, the wrang wans, aun the wans used against her. Now, she’s no really sure whit she’s meant tae say, or how she’s meant tae say it. A fast-paced and quick-witted play exploring the impact of culture, identity and their intersections in Scotland, Common Tongue follows Bonnie as she navigates her relationship with the way she speaks, coming to grips with the implications of her language, and how much she can claim it or ignore it.
Written and directed by Paisley creative Fraser Scott, produced by Jennifer Galt, and performed by Cumbernauld actor, Olivia Caw, this show was funded by Creative Scotland and originally presented in association with Cumbernauld Theatre. Age guidance: 12+. Content warnings: strong and graphic language, mild references to sex and violence.
