Taking part in a range of cultural and physical activities can support positive social and mental health. It can offer you the opportunity to learn new skills and to enjoy being creative and active.  Culturally, it can help you learn more about Renfrewshire and its heritage and to make connections with other people in a variety of different environments including our arts and library spaces.

The Social Prescribing Service supports people who could benefit from improving their general wellbeing and those who are looking for opportunities to make social connections. We can accept referrals on behalf of an individual but we are equally delighted to hear directly from you if you feel this service would be valuable.

We will arrange for you to attend a short appointment with our Social Prescribing Coordinator, who will look at your needs in a holistic way. This appointment is flexible and can be arranged in person or over the phone, whatever is easiest for you. A range of available opportunities within Renfrewshire can be discussed to assess what is suitable for your needs. Examples may include joining a local gym to get active, accessing local arts activities, gardening, volunteering, wellbeing groups and lots more.

We are delivering wellbeing groups where you can come along for 6 weeks and get involved in different activities whilst having fun and connecting with others. You might learn a new skill, play a game, go for a walk or benefit from some mindfulness, all ways to improve your wellbeing!

The next 6 week block will take place at Erskine Arts (located in Erskine Sports Centre) from 27th January 2026, 1pm-3pm. Places are limited and must be booked by emailing:

healthandwellbeing@renfrewshire.gov.uk

Locations will change for each 6 week block so get in touch.

The Social Prescribing Service has been making a difference to people in the community:

I have met other people and I enjoy getting out of the house. The library is near to where I stay so getting there is not difficult and access is easy. I will keep going to the group as I really enjoy it.

I’m glad I went to a group with the Social Prescribing Coordinator, otherwise I would have never had the confidence to attend the other sessions. I am happy where I'm at, thank you.
