Walking is the cheapest and easiest means of being physically active. It helps prevent disease, improves the management of long-term conditions, aids recovery from illness or injury, and can have a positive effect on mental health.

Joining a local walking group can increase social connections, helping to combat loneliness and reduce the risks associated with isolation. Walking is great for the environment too.

We work in partnership with NHSGGC to deliver a programme of walking activities which, we believe, suits all levels of ability. Whether you are starting from scratch, recovering from illness, or are already a keen walker, we have something for you!

Our walks are all delivered in line with guidelines set out by Walking Scotland, the national walking and wheeling charity.

This is a FREE entry level 5 week programme suitable for those who struggle to walk a short distance and are looking to build confidence, a little fitness and meet likeminded people. Each week incorporates some strength and balance exercises, a gradual build up of walking (from 10mins up to 20-30mins), some health topics and tea/coffee and chat!

This class takes place indoors and is designed for those who walk slowly and may use a mobility aid. The class will involve walking and will include some small obstacles, helping build ability and confidence for perhaps being able to walk more outdoors. Although FREE, to ensure a space please book. You can book your class online or by calling the centre on 0300 300 0250. Members can make bookings up to seven days in advance.

Lagoon Leisure Centre – Mondays 12.30-1.30pm

A health walk is a short, low level flat walk suitable for all levels of ability. Our new ‘entry’ level health walks last up to 30 minutes and our general health walks last around 60 minutes. Our friendly walk leaders will support and encourage you to go at a pace that is comfortable and enjoyable for you.

Our themed walks will discover and explore Renfrewshire's rich heritage and nature. These walks are 1.5-2 hours long and are another level to complement our health walks. Please note these walks must be booked in advance.

With support from the Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership, we have developed two family friendly walking routes around Paisley. These signposted routes take you past many popular points of interest, allowing you to enjoy some of the towns culture, architecture and history.

Volunteering

We are grateful to all the volunteers who come along and offer their time and commitment to support health walks across Renfrewshire. If you are looking for a volunteering experience that is rewarding, sociable, and benefits both your health and the health of others, then why not consider becoming a health walk leader.

The one-day Paths for All Walk Leader Training is free and organised locally or online. You will be fully supported by the health walk coordinator to join with an existing health walk group or to set up your own following training. OneRen are actively seeking new volunteers to join their team.
