New Digizone hubs providing digital skills support open across Renfrewshire

Hubs providing digital skills support and access to the internet and digital devices have opened across Renfrewshire.

Twenty-one Digizones are now open in locations including libraries and learning centres, with more planned for the future. The Skoobmobile has also been turned into a mobile Digizone. The hubs, which are supported by Renfrewshire Council’s Fairer Renfrewshire programme, are free to use and aim to promote digital and data inclusion whilst raising awareness of digital supports available to everyone living, working, learning and visiting Renfrewshire.

James McKee, Digital Strategy Delivery Manager for Renfrewshire Council, said: “Our Digizones are designed to make the internet accessible to everyone in Renfrewshire.

“They will help promote digital and data inclusion and tackle poverty and inequalities head-on by providing digital access, ensuring everyone has equal and equitable access to the internet.
“This is just the first phase, we plan to create more Digizones across Renfrewshire which will help bring people together whilst also providing a greater choice for ways to get online, ensuring no-one is left behind.”

The initiative is funded by Renfrewshire Council and supported by partners including OneRen, Roar: Connections for Life and Active Communities.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, chair of OneRen’s board of directors, said: “I am delighted to see our first Digizones opening in Renfrewshire.
“Whether you need access to a device, the internet or would like to learn or develop your digital skills, Digizones have a range of support available.
“These hubs will help tackle digital exclusion in Renfrewshire, giving everyone access to digital skills support, the internet and digital devices.
“I would encourage everyone to visit them and take advantage of the fantastic services on offer.”
