Step into Spring with OneRen’s fantastic Easter family programme

OneRen’s Step into Spring programme has been launched with a fun-filled programme of activities which entertain the entire family throughout the Easter holidays.

Running from 3 – 14 April 2023, the Spring Kids’ Camps are back and open to kids from P1 to S3 with children and young people taking part in outdoor activities including scrambling, gorge walking, mountain biking, rock climbing and kayaking, taking in some of Scotland’s most beautiful sites. There are also football camps at the On-X in Linwood, a dance and movement camp at Park Mains High School and an Active Families disability sport and activity club at The Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley.

As well as the kids’ camps, there family films will be showing at Johnstone Town Hall and Renfrew Town Hall, with favourites including Minions: The Riser of Gru and Hop on the big screen.

Both town halls will also play host to pottery and textile workshops, allowing families to explore arts and crafts, inspiring your creative side.

Stephen Halkett, the Glasgow comic and science teacher is your host for a fun filled interactive show on how to save our beautiful planet. His Save The Planet show is aimed at children aged 5-12 and takes place at Renfrew Town Hall.

In a world-premiere, award-winning Glasgow dance collective 21 Common bring their dance spectacular ‘Common Is as Common Does: A Memoir’ to Johnstone Town Hall.  The performance is based on an autobiography which explores domestic and class violence through the lens of a Cowboy Western saloon. Spring Kids Camps 2023

Multi-activity Camps at On-x and Park Mains High School

Kids between the ages of P1 - S3 can enjoy a range of different sports, themed days, arts and crafts. There are endless activities across the School Holidays at our facilities. Building on the success of previous Summer, Spring and October camps, these popular school holiday camps are run by highly trained and enthusiastic staff who have experience working with young children.

  • Scrambling

This offers a chance to explore the Succoth boulder field (its kind of like over ground caving) with fun climbs and tight squeezes in the rocks above Arrochar. Please bring a packed lunch, a complete change of clothes (including a towel) and any medication that may be required on the day.

  • Gorge Walking

This fun introductory gorge offers lots of fun climbs and waterfalls and is a good starting level for those new to the activity. Although most of the activity takes place in shallow water. There will be times when you will be in water that is chest deep. Please bring a packed lunch, a change of clothes (including towel) and any medication that may be required on the

day.

  • Mountain biking

This session offers an introduction to mountain biking skills and techniques and will suit those who can confidently ride a bike but are new to off road and rough terrain. Please bring a packed lunch, a complete change of clothes and any medication that may be required on the day. We can provide bikes to all participants.

  • Island adventure

Take the Balmaha ferry over to Incailleoch and explore the island, once there we will try out some bushcraft survival skills and maybe even a dip in the loch for those brave enough.

 

  • Rock Climbing

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience of outdoor rock climbing this session offers different climbs to challenge anyone.  Please bring a packed lunch, a change of clothes and any medication that may be required on the day.

  • Gorge Walking

This exciting gorge offers lots of fun climbs and waterfalls and is a wee step up in level from the week before. Most of the time when you will be in water that is between knee and chest deep. Participants will need to be physically able to climb out of the water and up waterfalls approx. 5 to 8 ft in height. Please bring a packed lunch, a change of clothes (including towel) and any medication that may be required on the day.

  • Kayaking

This exciting activity has been a very popular addition to our programme, participants will develop paddling skills on both flat and moving water. Participants need to be water confident and able to swim 25m.

 

OneRen/Scottish FA Football Camp at On-x Linwood

For kids between the ages of P1 - P7. Young players who attend may be taking their first steps in the game or be more experienced players who wish to work towards our elite player development programme. Each day will follow football related themes designed by experienced Scottish FA qualified coaches and in line with the National Player Pathway, which will allow players to develop their technique through individual and group skill practices along with small sided games.

 

Dance & Movement Camp at Park Mains High School

Kids between the ages of P1 - P7 can enjoy a variety of styles varying from street dance, disco, cheer, lyrical, ballet jazz etc. The sessions will be delivered by experienced dance coaches in the form or fun games, activities and routines. Movement will range from stretching, conditioning, floor and vault skills. General skills will be based around rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round off, bridges, walk over and progressions. Each skill set will be taught by UKCC level 1 and 2 trained coaches and will be taught at the ability of the participants.

 

Active Families Disability Sport and Activity Club (P1 - S6) at Lagoon

Attendees will be able to take part in a weekly club where a bouncy castle will be on offer as well as the opportunity to take part in sports/activities led by qualified coaches, Where partnerships are available our Affiliated Hub Clubs will be supporting with delivery. This family club is available to any family with a young person (P1-S6) with a disability and/or sensory impairment (Siblings welcome). A parent/guardian must stay with the participant for the duration of the club, but they are actively encouraged to take part! This 1hr hour long weekly programme allows all the family to take part in fun activities locally in Renfrewshire.

Workshops

  • Soft Toy Stitch Up! – Make your own soft toy inspired by your favourite movies!

Join us for a fun Easter textile based workshop for families.  In this 2 hour workshop you will work together to design, make and decorate your own original soft toy inspired by movie characters, monsters or animals.  The workshop is led by local textile artist Meadhbh Corrigan who will guide you through the process and teach you the necessary skills in a fun and inspiring experience.   All materials will be provided and you will take home your creation at the end.

Parents/guardians and children.  Max 3 children per adult. Price £5 £7 and £9 pay what you can.  For aged 8-12 years old.

  • Clay Together - create Easter decorations such as bunnies, trinket boxes and egg cups!

Join us for an Easter clay workshop for families. You will learn simple pottery techniques and create Easter decorations such as bunnies, trinket boxes and egg cups to take home with you. All materials will be provided, in addition to a set of paints, if you wish to add some colour to your pieces at home once dried.

The workshop will be led by Paisley-based ceramicist Cara Kennedy. Cara will guide you to create pottery whilst feeling inspired during a fun and memorable experience.

Parents/guardians and children.  Max 3 children per adult. Price £5 £7 and £9 pay what you can.  For aged 5-11 years old.

Comedy Show

  • Save the Planet with Stephen Halkett  

Glaswegian comic and science teacher Stephen Halkett is your host for a fun filled interactive show on how to save our beautiful planet.

You see, the thing is, our Earth needs rescuing from this global warming ‘thingy’.  We need to cut out those smelly greenhouse gases and we need your help!

There will be loads of games, jokes and laughter along the way and quite possibly the odd ‘bottom burp’ sound! Oh, and there will be prizes!

Come along and together we will Save the Planet!!
