Award-winning Scottish Bulgarian author Kapka Kassabova joins us to introduce her latest non-fiction book, Borrowed Land, which paints an extraordinary portrait of the Scottish Highlands past and present. An intimate and urgent story of destruction and renewal told through encounters with some of the last true Highlanders, this book explores how Scotland continues to be shaken by forces of colonialism, industry, depopulation, and speculation, in the name of renewable energy for export. Speaking in conversation with Dominic Hinde, whose own book, Drifting North, traces Scotland’s complicated role in fossil capitalism, Kapka looks beyond this ongoing industrialisation of our land and sea towards a truly green and sustainable future.
