Writer and photographer Kristie De Garis joins us as part of our ‘What Nature Does For Us’ series to recount how she turned to the land, and the traditional craft of drystone walling, to rebuild her life in her starkly honest memoir, Drystone. Detailing an upbringing that was punctuated by racism, trauma, and undiagnosed ADHD, this is the powerful tale of a girl who struggled to fit in, and who would later in adulthood face problems with addiction, and the overwhelming challenges of young motherhood. Speaking in conversation with Roxani Kystalli, Kristie explores the healing impact of learning a traditional craft and how the land gave her a quiet place to call her own.
