When the brave settlers who have moved to the New World to farm find that the uninhabited jungles are actually filled with giant, mutated insects, only the pilots of the Skyfleet with their supersonic jets can protect them. Stuck on the Skyfleet base after her parents’ plane crashes, orphaned twelve-year-old Amberley Jain sets out on a mission with her best friend Ric Lopez to rebuild and fly the smashed Firehawk jet – the only plane with the firepower to destroy the biggest, baddest threat of all: the deadly Tarantulon spiders swarming up from the toxic meteor impact site.
This interactive talk, suitable for children ages 7-14 and their families, will look at the most exciting events and interesting characters of the book, giving children the chance to dress up as the Skyfleet pilots, challenge each other in a ‘flying’ contest, and design the special features of their own jet. It will finish up with a discussion of what makes a hero and what constitutes bravery in the real world, looking at small, everyday acts of kindness that can make schools and communities better places for everyone.
