Alan Cunningham

Indoor Leisure Service Manager

My 1st role at OneRen was a Leisure Assistant at the Lagoon and Johnstone pool, primarily as a lifeguard. Since then I have worked as a Head Leisure Attendant, Facility Duty Manager, Senior Facility Duty Manager, and an Indoor Leisure Service Manager. As a result I have developed skills in leadership, teamwork development as well as being more innovative.

I have so many memorable experiences including being a part of investment programme delivery at Lagoon Johnstone Community Sports Hub and On-X Linwood. I also planned and delivered an open weekend to launch On-X which seen over 4000 customers through the doors. More recently, I have been working on resilience planning through the Covid-19 Pandemic. I am so happy to be given the opportunity to undertake my current role and support the develop of leisure.

If I was to give advice to anyone looking to progress their career with OneRen I would say get involved, ask questions, shadow the role and on site learning. Think outside the box, OneRen is more than just leisure.

Kirsty Hair

Facility Duty Manager

I started with OneRen in 2003 and my first post was a Casual Leisure Assistant and my main role was as a Lifeguard. Since then I have had many different roles within OneRen including Leisure Assistant, Swimming Teacher, Sports Coach (including ACES), Receptionist, Senior Leisure Assistant, STA Co-ordinator and Tutor and Facility Duty Manager. The wide variety of roles that I have had within the company has allowed me to develop many skills such as communication, leadership, problem solving and teamwork and this has also helped me to develop into a more well-rounded manager.

My most memorable experience would be taking Prince Edward a guided tour of On-X when he came to officially open the building.  This was my first real responsibility in terms of management and greatly encouraged me to progress.

Progression can come in many different forms so don’t be scared to try something new or different as you never know when an opportunity will arise.

Mark Robertson

Administrative Assistant

My first job within OneRen was a Casual Sports Assistant at Linwood Sports Centre.  The kind of things I did were setting up and dismantling sports equipment for customer bookings, sports camps, roller disco and cleaning. Since then I have worked as a Casual Sports Assistant, Receptionist, Administration Officer, Relief Duty Manager, Covered Finance Assistant, Covered I.T Manager and I currently work within the Finance Team. I have developed so many skills from this variety of different roles including communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving, self-confidence, adaptability and good work ethic.

My most memorable experience was being nominated for the Chief Executive Award. The advice I would give to anyone wishing to progress their career within OneRen is to speak to their Line Manager who can help identify and work on the skills they will need to succeed. This will help to fulfil their career goals.

Julie Noble

Facility Duty Manager

My first post within OneRen was Casual Leisure Assistant back in 2002. Since then, I have worked as a Leisure Assistant, Receptionist, Sports Coach, Camp Co-Ordinator, Fitness Consultant, Relief Duty Manager, Senior Leisure Assistant and finally Facility Duty Manager.

I have developed numerous different skills throughout the years, including active listening, leadership, decision making, customer service, problem solving, quick thinking and management skills to name but a few.

My most memorable experience was coming back off maternity leave and being posted to the Lagoon. This was my first shot at managing one of our larger facilities. My advice would be to always lead by example. Get to know your team’s strengths. Work hard and show a positive attitude.
